McLean named as department chair

UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences has been named Dr. Andrew Mclean to be chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, according to information posted to UND’s website last thursday.

Current department chair, Dr. James Mitchell, will be retiring from the position but will still be employed as a faculty member at UND’s medical school.

McClean, who is originally from Hillsboro, is currently the medical director at the North Dakota Department of Human Services. He will continue to serve in this role as well, while he is chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science.

Before joining the North Dakota Department of Human Services, McClean was medical director of the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown and the Southeast Human Service Center in Fargo.

McClean studied at UND as both an undergraduate and medical student. He also holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Minnesota and has published research in a variety of subjects.

McClean has been a professor of psychiatry and behaviorial sciences at UND since 1993.
