Coffee Shops play an important part in every community, and due to the large population of students here in Grand Forks, coffee shops are of high importance. Whether students are cramming for exams, catching up with friends, looking for a good coffee, or just a quiet place to relax, coffee shops play a big role in campus life. From study spots to hangout spots and the best cup of joe, Grand Forks has it all.
Many college students depend on coffee shops for not only an extra boost of energy through caffeine and as an alternative environment for studying and socializing. Getting out of the dorms or off campus can help students refresh their mindset and boost their productivity.
For students, convenient coffee shops right here on campus are the go-to for many. On the UND campus there is both the Memorial Union Starbucks and Board Room Coffee and Tap House that are frequently visited by many students. Due to their location right here on campus, they serve as great spots to stop between classes, meet with friends, and study.
“I go to Starbucks here on campus almost every day, because it’s on campus it’s a convenient place to hang out at between classes,” said Fr. Ellie Lopez. “I always see a friendly face there because it’s in such a central location on campus.”
One stand out local coffee shop, the Urban Stampede, is a local downtown favorite to many individuals, not just students. Known for its cozy environment, large menu, and reliable Wi-Fi, it is a go-to spot for students who are looking for a balance of comfort, community, and productivity.
For those who enjoy a more local feel, Bully Brew Coffee Co & Roasters stands out. They are one of the areas long-running, women-owned local coffee roasters, offering fresh daily roasted coffee for their customers. They are noted for giving an authentic and small business feel to their customers.
“Growing up in East Grand Forks, Bully Brew has always been a staple coffee shop in my life,” said So. Ellyn Berry. “Their coffee definitely stands out compared to chain coffee shops due to their high-quality and freshness.”
Fast drive through coffee places are good for those who are in a pinch, the most notable spots being 7Brew and Scooters. Both offering a variety of caffeinated beverages on the go, perfect for a quick pick me up.
“My friends and I go to 7Brew all the time for a little drive to get out of the dorms and get a fun drink,” said Fr. Kate Christner. “Because they offer different drinks other than just coffee it makes it easy for everyone to find something they enjoy.”
An alternative for non-coffee drinkers still looking for their caffeine fix are the many nutrition shops that offer caffeinated loaded teas. Some of these shops include SU Nutrition, Now or Never Nutrition, Revival Nutrition and more.
“Loaded teas are a fun alternative drink for when I need a pick me up and am not in the mood for coffee. They are always refreshing and have so many fun flavors to try,” said Fr. Lopez. “They also offer good seating for studying or hanging out with friends.”
Coffeeshops aren’t just a place to grab a drink, they serve as community spaces where individuals can relax, socialize and study. They provide an environment that blends both comfort and productivity, making them an essential part of a campus community.
Whether you are looking for a quiet study spot, a place to hang out, or just a good cup of coffee, Grand Forks has plenty of options to offer. From local favorites to convenient campus spots and more, these coffee shops help not only fuel the campus but also the community.
