The University of North Dakota officially has a brand-new coffee and study spot called the Board Room Coffee and Taphouse. The Board Room opened its doors to the community on Jan.17. Just last semester UND said goodbye to the beloved Archives Coffeehouse located across from the Chester Fritz Library on campus. This space was a staple study and event spot for the UND community where students and staff could meet for coffee or attend comedy, art, and music events. This business will be greatly missed by the community, but when one door closes, another one opens.
The on-campus Board Room is the second location like this to be opened in Grand Forks, the original being located on the other end of town. These locations feel similar to the Bully Brew Coffee locations around town but have their own unique twist including not just coffee but various drink flights and charcuterie boards. These unique shareable menu items allow for the perfect collaborative environment for students and staff to get together to socialize or study.
Aside from their shareable dishes, the menu will be like that of their other location. It will include various iced and hot coffees and teas. Along with various breakfast and lunch foods. So, whether you are looking to grab a quick coffee and sandwich to-go in between classes or to sit down with friends and share a board and a drink flight, the options are endless.
As far as community events go, it appears that the Board Room plans to continue what Archives started by hosting various community building events. They already have a Paint and Sip event scheduled for Jan. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a comedy night scheduled for Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Along with this, they often host various community classes and holiday events at their other location, so it is likely that events similar to those will take place at the on-campus location as well.
Having a new space located on campus for the UND community to come together is exciting. It offers new opportunities to try new menu items and to form new connections within the community. The Board Room’s opening day was highly anticipated by students, staff, and members of the Grand Forks and UND communities. The Board Room is open now, so consider stopping in to see this new space for yourself and try something new off their menu.
