Zen in 10 is a unique program that has become a staple at the University of North Dakota. It initially started to provide teachers and faculty with a brief break from work during their busy mornings. UND would let them actually take breaks to go to the classes, giving them a wonderful opportunity to get movement in if they were normally stuck at a desk all day.
Zen in 10 has now evolved into an activity that fosters a fun and relaxing environment while promoting physical help for all. The program is designed to cater to everyone, making it a welcoming space for individuals of all fitness levels and backgrounds. The UND Wellness Center and the constructor of this program recognized the importance of health and wellness to the entire campus, rather than confining it to a single area like the Wellness Center.
Kay Williams, the instructor who played a pivotal role in starting Zen in 10, has been a big part of keeping the program growing. Zen in 10 started as an eight-week pilot program, meaning they were just testing the waters, and it has now been a part of UND for almost a decade.
Williams emphasizes that the class “helps across both physical and mental areas of lives.” This resonates with participants who find that the class not only provides a moment of relaxation but also leaves them feeling rejuvenated.
If you do not have a lot of time, the key to this program is its short duration. The class lasts only ten minutes, making it an ideal option for those with busy schedules. Despite it being short, the class is highly effective in promoting flexibility and movement. It is designed for individuals seeking a gentle stretch and mobility to start their day on a positive note.
Zen in 10 is held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, with multiple time slots available including 9 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., and 10:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. If you are free during any of these times, consider joining Zen in 10 and taking a step towards better health and wellness.
To sign up for the classes visit UND’s event page and register. This brief, yet effective, class is a fun way to incorporate movement and relaxation into your day. Whether you are a student, teacher, or faculty member, Zen in 10 offers a welcoming and beneficial experience that can enhance your physical and mental wellbeing.
