Letter to the Editor: Farewell Tony Trimarco

Thank You

I wanted to write this letter as a thank you to someone who has given a tremendous amount to the University of North Dakota, Tony Trimarco. Today is Tony’s last day at UND. Tony will be missed by many and I think we might not realize his enormous impact on campus for weeks, months, or years from today. I think this is true not just based on the role he has held as Director of the Memorial Union, but because Tony’s passion has been to empower and support students. Tony’s impact and legacy lives on in the numerous former student employees and student government leaders who were impacted by his passion. Tony has helped many students reach their potential and reach towards their dreams.

Personally, Tony has been one of my closest mentors, while I was a student and now in my role on staff at the Union. He often likes to give me credit and point out the work I did on a project near the Hopper Danley Spiritual Center. However, what many don’t realize is that project would have gone nowhere if Tony didn’t take the time to say “Dream big” and help to outline the right path to move forward. He was the spark that ignited the project and sent us on our journey.

Tony, I leave you with this quote from Harold Kushner which I believe sums up your time at UND, “Caring about others, running the risk of feeling, and leaving an impact on people, brings happiness.”

So thank YOU Tony for all you’ve done for me and many, many others.
