Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and it is time to start making plans for how you may want to spend the holiday. Whether you prefer to spend it alone, with friends, or with a significant other, this holiday can be a great excuse to do something fun to celebrate love. Valentine’s Day is typically seen as a day for love and affection, so it can serve as the perfect reason to do something kind for yourself and those you care about.
One way that this holiday can be celebrated is by treating yourself or a loved one to a nice meal. There are plenty of options to do so in the Grand Forks community. If you are looking for some fine dining, there are two great restaurants located in the heart of downtown. The first being Harry’s Steakhouse who has a vast menu, deep rich history, and an atmosphere straight out of the 1940’s. They do require reservations so if you do not want to worry about getting a table, you may have better luck Skies 322. Connected to the new Olive Ann Hotel, this restaurant sits above the ground floor with beautiful large windows looking over the streets of downtown and serves as a lovely airy atmosphere to enjoy a unique, new dish.
Perhaps you want to spend your Valentine’s Day appreciating art or make plans for dinner and a show. You can do so by visiting the North Dakota Museum of Art located on the University of North Dakota campus or by attending a live performance. The Empire Arts Center will be hosting two events on Valentine’s Day weekend. The first being a stand-up comedy performance on Feb. 14 and the other being their monthly Music Box concert on Feb. 15.
For college students, it may be a bit more difficult to make plans for the actual day of Feb. 14 as there are classes. However, there are some exciting things you can do to feel a bit more festive in between classes. The new Board Room Coffeeshop has various Valentine’s themed drinks to stop by and try on the way to or between classes. You can also check out some of the on-campus events hosted by various student organizations and clubs that week.
A few other exciting ideas for activities include going to see a movie at the River Cinema Movie Theater, ice skating, or doing other outdoor winter activities if the weather permits. Or maybe you want to spend the holiday giving back to the community and showing your love in a unique way by volunteering or donating to those in need.
Whatever way you choose to spend your Valentine’s Day weekend it is important to remember to do something that shows love to yourself and those around you.
