This past week, the informal recruitment process for all fraternities, known as rush, has concluded, with potential new members finding the organization that best suits their needs. There are 13 different recognized fraternities on campus that are each actively involved within the Grand Forks community by giving back through service and philanthropy. During “rush week,” all the different fraternities on campus host engaging events so that potential new members can get a chance to meet the members within the organization and see if it is the right fit for them.
Part of the exciting nature of the week is that no two fraternity events are the same, and neither are any of the chapters. I had the opportunity to speak with the Rush Chair for Pi Kappa Alpha, Ethan Johnson, about one of the events that he helped organize for potential new members. “It is really exciting seeing all these new faces around on campus, and I hope everyone finds a new home and chooses to ‘Go Greek,’ just as I did with Pi Kappa Alpha,” Johnson said. Though visiting houses and ultimately choosing one may seem daunting, at the end of the day it is all about finding the chapter that is the right fit for you. All the chapters on campus are hoping to grow their chapter sizes and are more than happy to welcome more members into the Greek community.
You can find more information about all the differing chapters and what their core values are on the UND Greek Instagram. They have recently been showcasing all the different Fraternities on campus through their Fraternity Spotlight bi-weekly posts leading up to rush.
Alongside the Instagram page, you can also find more information through the UND campus involvement page, however, the best way to get to know which chapter is the right for you comes down to getting to know the brothers in person. If you have not had the opportunity to rush this fall, keep up with the student involvement calendar and be sure to try and potentially consider rushing in the spring semester.
