The Greek community at UND is a strong and prominent organization that many students are involved in. Membership reaching 1,272 members by the end of 2025. Greek life making up such a large amount of the student population celebrates each chapter and their successes each semester through Greek awards. Over 20 awards were given to chapters to celebrate their great accomplishments.
“The fraternities and sororities and many of the members in them work really hard each year, so it’s important and exciting to recognize all the individuals and chapters that excelled and made outstanding contributions to their chapter, the Greek Community, and beyond,” said UND Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority life, Addela Sampel.
Overall Greek life has reached goals worth celebrating and has made significant impacts on our community and campus. Through Greek life’s high values in community service, philanthropic events and giving back to our community their efforts have been felt and seen this year by reaching new highs than ever before. “Throughout the 2025 year, overall Greek life completed over 22,000 service hours, donated over $72,000, which was higher than years past,” said Sampel.
There are five Excellence awards in different categories that highlight chapters who have truly stood out in the past year. Excellence in Intellectual Development Award, Excellence in Leadership Development, Excellence in Chapter Accountability, Excellence in Brotherhood/Sisterhood, lastly, Excellence in Citizenship. All these awards highlight the values most important to the Greek life community. “Through winning multiple awards in the excellence category, gives us the opportunity to celebrate our chapter, our accomplishments and find ways to continue to thrive with each other and uplift each other,” said Kappa Alpha Theta Chapter President Brianna Behrendt.
Academics is of high importance in all Greek chapters and is a goal each strives towards. Each Chapter has important programing to ensure all member’s GPA are up to standard and to ensure no members are struggling academically. Additionally, study tables, study-athons and tutoring support play an important role within each semester to support academic growth and success.
“This past fall of 2025 all Greek GPA was 3.26, which is the highest ever recorded in Greek history here at UND,” said Sampel.
One of the most sought after and worked towards awards each year by all chapters in Greek life is the President’s Award for Greek Excellence. This award is given to chapters who show excellence in in all four of the Greek pillars, leadership, community service, accountability and brotherhood/sisterhood. This year four chapters received this award, Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Tau Delta and Delta Upsilon.
“As a chapter we take great pride in winning this award and have won it the past five consecutive years,” said Behrendt. “It shows how much work and effort each of us put into our chapter as a whole.”
Outstanding members who have gone above and beyond in the past year both inside and outside of Greek life are eligible for the Gordon Henery Award. This Award is in honor of Gordon Henry, an important member in UNDs Greek history who was known for his selflessness and service. Students who win this award will not only receive the award for their accomplishments but also a monetary scholarship for the following spring semester. This year Kaleb Martin from Sigma Chi was awarded for his hard work, dedication and service in the community.
As the 2025 year has come to an end, great successes in Greek life have been made and continue to be celebrated. Whether it was in academics, community service, leadership or overall excellence, all accomplishments are celebrated and recognized. As chapters take home their awards, they start planning and preparing how to be even better, reach further goals and make their chapter and community a better place.
