Olorun-Asa provides poetry to Grand Forks
UND students and Grand Forks residents seeking some rest and relaxation can find it downtown Grand Forks at Olorun-Asa.
Olorun-Asa is a local company where people can go to relax, for meditation, and to be themselves and express themselves in any way they feel necessary. Their focuses include meditation, yoga, nutrition on an energetic level, energy healing and event planning.
The creator of Olorun-Asa is Spirit Star. The unique company name is derived from two African gods. Olorun is the top sky god of peace, justice, foresight, victory and destiny. Asa is the father god of mercy, help, surviving the impossible and protection.
The concepts of energy and universal connectedness are some of the main beliefs of Olorun-Asa, and something that they are very passionate about. The company offers many services for people to find themselves and find their energy, such as mediation, energy healing services, yoga, and help with the concept of chakra, derived from Hinduism and Buddhism. Various sessions are offered as individual or group sessions starting Feb. 15.
One of the events that Olorun-Asa sponsors is called Spokenword. It is a live poetry event that is located at The Guild in downtown Grand Forks. Anyone can sign up to perform their music or poetry for $2 and non-performers can come and enjoy for $5. It is a family friendly event and all are welcome.
The Guild is an Arts Resource Center, Events Center, and Gallery. Various artists were hosted from around Grand Forks, some even from UND.
During the poetry event there was a wonderful range of performers who expressed themselves through their written words and songs. Hot tea, water and wine also were available for all.
“It is wonderful to be here with this energy. I created this event with the help of some beautiful people, the artists and the organizers, and I am blessed.” Sprit said while hosting the poetry event.
The atmosphere was very calming and the performances were amazing. Everyone was very supportive of any one who chose to share what they had to say.
“This is a safe, loving environment,” Star said. “Here, is where you connect.”
Spokenword: a live poetry event is open to all and hosted every second and fourth Saturday at 8 p.m. at The Guild. The Guild is located at 311 Demers Ave. Grand Forks, ND 58201.
