Football signings

The University of North Dakota football coaches saw their hard work over the last month and a half payoff February 5, on the official signing day for college football.

Focused on getting a new attitude in the program head coach Bubba Schweigert told the media during a signing day press conference that the team focused less on needs within each area of position as much as an overall motto for the program.

Despite the late start in recruiting and early worries about a small class, the team ended up signing on 27 players, including 9 who play on the offensive or defensive line. Much of the credit goes to Danny Freund, who stayed connected to recruits despite his having an unknown future for much of November and December.

Looking back at the process the coaches went through, I feel the team is in good hands. The new group of coaches brought the excitement back to the north after recruiting 17 players from North dakota (3), Minnesota (9), and Wisconsin (4) . More impressively, the coaching staff battled it out with NDSU for several players, something Chris Mussman rarely did in his final years at the university.

I do not know how good this class will be; however, I have spoken to multiple players, and despite mainly having workouts so far, many of the players say they already feel changes are on the horizon as Schweigert is bringing a different style of discipline to the team.

In the next few weeks, I look forward to bringing you highlights and stats on multiple players who look to get their college careers started as the spring practices begin.
