BLOG: Horsing around

Do you know those girls who see a picture of a horse and say, “Oh how cute, I want one so bad” and beg their parents for a horse for Christmas?

Well, that girl was never me.

Ever since I can remember, I have always thought horses were neat but super scary. They are big, strong animals who I do not happen to trust. You see, I like the whole idea of riding and having a horse but I’ve always been too afraid.

This weekend however, I faced my fear and went on a six-hour-long horseback ride with a group of friends. I was going to ride a horse by myself but we ended up having too many riders so I rode behind one of my friends.

My other friend, whose family is the one that owns most of horses, has between 30-40 horses. We had to go in the pen with all of them, round them up, and get them ready to go out. At first, I was freaking out and I did not know if I could handle the rest of the day! It was was only the beginning and I was already shaking in my mud boots.

However, as we were getting the horses groomed and ready to ride, I started to feel a lot more comfortable and before I knew it, I was on top of the horse and ready to ride!

It ended up being a great day and we had a lot of fun. By the end of the day, I was able to be around all the horses and not worry every second that I was going to die.

What I’m trying to say is that it is so important to get out of your comfort zone and do something you would not normally do. I tried it and it ended up being an awesome decision. If you do not get out there and do things you are afraid of, how will you ever get anywhere in life! My challenge for all of you is to try something new that you have always been afraid of and see what happens, maybe it could change your life!
