Countless students struggle to find a balance in maintaining their grades, social life, and work schedules that are flexible enough to work with them as they navigate life as a student at the University of North Dakota. Whether it is the proximity of campus, competitive wages, or flexibility with students’ course loads, an on-campus job may be the perfect resume builder and extra source of income that students at UND are looking for.
The UND student-employment program offers hundreds of part-time job opportunities that are exclusively available for students on campus to help finance their education while providing real-time work experience that will prove as an invaluable asset in finding a full-time job among a related work field post-graduation. Some of these opportunities include working at one of the buildings that are located on campus including the Memorial Union, Chester Fritz Library, and Wellness Center.
Fourth-year student Micah Bruggeman has worked at the Wellness Center as a Rec-Sports Supervisor over the past two years, and he spoke about his experience working an on-campus job and why he chose to do so.
Bruggeman stated that he “applied for an on-campus job as a convenient way to make some money and meet new people” going on to state that he “recommends that other students try working an on-campus job as well for at least a few semesters because it has opened up a lot of opportunities for me and helped me build countless connections” that he otherwise would not have made by working at the Wellness Center.
Part of what makes working an on-campus job different than other part time jobs in Grand Forks is that you will primarily be working with other students and be immersed in an inclusive work environment that is difficult to replicate anywhere else.
