On April 16, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the University of North Dakota will hold Student Government elections. Each year during Student Government elections, the student body votes to select peers to represent them throughout the academic year. No matter the position, each member of Student Government has the ability to influence positive change, suggest campus-wide improvements, and work together to foster a healthy, positive UND experience.
Connor Ferguson, the current Student Body President, spoke on his personal experience with UND Student Government. Ferguson first served the student body as Student Body Vice President for the duration of his junior year of Undergraduate. Ferguson noted, “I got involved because I’ve always loved UND. I wanted to continuously make things better for students and make their overall college experience better.”
After serving his term as Student Body Vice President, Ferguson decided to continue to make an impact and run for UND Student Body President, with running mate and Vice President elect, Maya Orvis.
“I figured if I wanted to see positive change throughout the university, I may as well take action and do it myself, so right after that, I got involved,” he said. Members of Student Government can make decisions that directly impact the student experience. Members of Student Government have multiple written bills and allocated money over the years to improve campus. One influential change that occurred on campus, because of Student Government, was the addition of menstrual products to women’s restrooms across campus.
There are multiple positions to run for. You may run for Student Body President and Vice President, as a member of the Executive Cabinet, or as a Student Senator. Each position comes with their own responsibilities, tasks, and required duties to properly serve the student body. To run for a position, you must fill out the Student Government Election packet found in the Student Involvement and Parent Programs office in the Memorial Union. Any student at UND can run, even if they are not full-time student. Though it can be beneficial to run under an executive President and Vice President ticket with their endorsement, it is not necessary to succeed.
If you are interested in a certain position, you may fill out the ticket to be added to the 2025-2026 voting ballot. Paperwork should be filled out as soon as possible to guarantee your spot on the ballot.
Voting locations will be placed throughout the University of North Dakota campus. If you are interested in learning more about candidates, you may visit each voting table on the day of elections or visit social media to find more information on candidates.
Voting for representatives takes only a few moments and ensures the quality of your UND college experience. Mark your calendars and vote on Apr. 16, 2025.
