Golf team swings low in Woodforest

COURSE UND men produce low scores in Husky Invitational Monday and Tuesday.

The UND men’s golf team took 13th place in the Husky Invitational this past Monday and Tuesday in Woodforest, Texas.

The winner of the tournament was Arkansas-Little Rock, posting 844 (-8), while Louisiana tallied an 845 (-7) for second place. The host of the tournament, Houston Baptist, took third with a score of 853 (+1). UND posted a final overall score of 935 (+83).

This was UND’s second tournament of the fall schedule, and it will participate in two more tournaments before it finishes for the fall.

With five North Dakota players in the tournament — the top finisher for UND was Sean Halverson, who tied for the 42nd position with 225 (+12). Aaron Pulanco followed behind him in the 65th spot with 238 (+25) while Collin Lervick and Brady Ohman tied for 68th with 240 (+27). Daniel Sayler finished with a score of 242 (+49).

On the final day of the tournament, Pulanco led UND in scoring with a 77 (+6) for his lowest of the tournament. Halverson scored a 70 (-1) on the first day, which was also a career low for him.

UND’s schedule is split between fall and spring. Four tournaments are played in the fall and the remaining nine tournaments, including the championship tournament, are played in the spring. Unlike the women’s golf team, the men’s team will not has a home tournament this year, and have not hosted a tournament since the 2007-2008 season.

UND’s next tournament will take place in Nebraska City, Neb. at the Arbor Lakes Invitational Oct. 7-8.
