Hello everyone! My name is Elizabeth Erickson and I am the sports editor of The Dakota Student. I applied to be a writer at the paper within a few weeks of my freshman year of college. I had no journalism experience, but I knew that writing was something that I loved and working for a newspaper seemed like something I wouldn’t want to miss out on.

It definitely wasn’t. I learned from fellow writers and editors, and I discovered that you can learn a lot about people and places you wouldn’t normally think twice about until you’re writing a story on them. Now I’m a junior and I love having a job that I can be excited to go to every Wednesday and Sunday, although the work is always there every day of the week. The best part might be getting to talk to so many individuals who have stories to tell and being able to write about them — showing everyone else what makes them unique.

The fact that I get to work in the sports section makes my job very enjoyable. So much effort is put into UND’s athletic program by dedicated athletes, officials, media personnel and of course, the fans. Yes, it’s talked about a lot, but the fans here at UND continue to impress me. Passion and dedication flow heavy throughout the campus and the community, and that’s the combination that makes the program so great.
