UND staff member arrested for solicitation

On Aug. 20th, UND Associate Director of Sustainability Randall Bohlman was arrested in Glenwood, Minn. after he allegedly tried to meet a prostitute at a local hotel.

Bohlman was charged with engaging in prostitution in a public place, a gross misdemeanor that carries no more than a one year prison sentence and a fine of $3,000.

Bohlman’s expertise was in high demand, as he spoke at nearly a dozen conferences a year all around the world. The Association of Energy Engineers have recognized Bohlman as a “Legend in Energy.”

According to court documents Bohlman responded to an online advertisement posted by an undercover deputy for the Pope County Sheriff on Aug. 20th. Bohlman agreed to meet the undercover deputy later that night at a hotel in Glenwood, just south of where he was staying in Alexandria Minn.

The criminal complaint filed in the case states that Bohlman arrived at the hotel with alcohol, a box of condoms, and $500 in cash. The complaint also says that Bohlman allegedly told officers that his cell phone was the one that had responded to the ad.

Bohlman remains on paid administrative leave.

Bohlman is the second UND staff member to be arrested on sex crimes this year, after Robert Beattie was arrested over the summer for possession of child pornography.
