BLOG: Sky praise
I’d like to take a moment and talk about the north Dakota sky.
Yes, the same sky that is everywhere, but the one mainly in North Dakota.
My favorite thing about it is when the sun rises and the sun sets.
I’ve seen many skies across the U.S. and in other countries. I’ve seen my fair share of sunrises, sunsets, and awe-inspiring darkness. But it’s the North Dakotan sky that gets to me the most.
I’ve only been to North Dakota twice before starting school here and yet, it’s made such an impact on me.
The sky is compelling because it screams overwhelming openness. Overwhelming vastness.
It paints this unending mural of life. It’s this grand masterpiece of hues and spectrums and ozone and clouds and space.
As I write this, the sky is a soft and a grayed blue. I know there’s a darkness lingering behind. But there’s also the excitement because the beautiful pinks, oranges, and purples will light the way.
Whenever I wake up, the horizon isn’t just a still line. It’s a curve that expands to some great unknown. When the sun sets, it pulls with it the coming darkness of the night.
There’s a silent conversation between the atmospheres, the earth, and the sun.
I am merely but a bystander who enjoys such a passionate and ongoing conversation.
I don’t think I can really explain to you why I feel the way I do about the North Dakotan sky.
And I’m okay with that. I like the mystery and reverence I’ve made for things or that they’ve made for themselves.
It’s an amazing sky. Really.
