The highly anticipated spring break is upon us at the University of North Dakota. You may already be traveling home or on vacation, but if you are spending your break in Grand Forks, you may be looking for some last-minute ideas for how to spend your time. There are plenty of activities to do in town even if the weather isn’t the ideal springtime warmth. There are also plenty of options to take a quick day trip or short weekend trip.
If you stay in town but feel like getting out of your home, you may consider taking advantage of the last few snow-covered ground days and go sledding or ice skating. If the weather is too warm for these to be enjoyable, perhaps you can take a stroll along the greenway or visit a new park.
A great option is to treat yourself to a nice meal. You can try out the new hot pot restaurant, Fire Pot, or go to a Grand Forks area staple like Blue Moose. There are plenty of options for dining experiences that you may otherwise not get the time for when classes are in session.
You can also enjoy spring break from the comfort of your home by getting creative. One potential idea is to host a spring break themed dinner or indoor picnic with friends who also stick around. Maybe you want to throw a movie or craft night. Nights in with friends who are staying in town over the break can make for some of the best memories.
If you want to do a little bit of traveling, but don’t have enough time to take a long trip, there are plenty of options for day trips. You can take a quick hour drive down to Fargo to do some shopping or even cross the boarder into Canada to experience something new. Along with this, just a few hours away you can drive up to Frost Fire to do some skiing if weather permits or to just experience the beautiful landscape. Just a few minutes out of town is Turtle River where you can take part in some end of winter springtime activities like sledding or hiking.
There are a few other short travel locations in the area that can be exciting but may require you to stay overnight. This includes driving to the Twin Cities area to do some shopping or to visit museums. Another option is to drive over to Duluth, Minnesota to explore the Lake Superior North Shore which is stunning at this time of year.
No matter how you choose to spend your spring break, the main priority should be to rest and reset before the last half of the semester. The semester will be over before we know it so take a moment to catch a break before things pick up again.
