On September 20, 2024, the Grand Forks Curling Club was transformed into a one-of-a-kind art gallery that hosted the annual event, TAG. Short for “The Art of Giving,” TAG, is an annual event that promotes local artists’ work, while also donating to a greater cause. With over 350 installations, TAG is one of the largest events of its kind, providing the unique opportunity to view incredible artwork, while also contributing to the greater good of the Grand Forks region and beyond. This year, the proceeds of the event went to the Grand Forks Children Museum.
Each year, an incredible amount of work goes into TAG. The Grand Forks Curling Club, located just off Washington Street and Demers Avenue, is transformed into an art museum, complete with a wide variety of art mediums. The pieces at the event consisted of sculptures to photographs, paintings to pottery, and everything in between. The art at the event was from local artists from the Greater Grand Forks area. Some of the artists features Jessie Thorson, Adam Kemp, Casey Opstad, Katie Lee, and Darren Thompson. While many more artists had pieces at the event, these were just a few that contributed to the magic of the evening.
The mission of TAG is to support artists and charities alike. As Grand Forks continues to grow, attending and supporting events like TAG bring a sense of vibrant creativity to the city. The event was open to all ages, allowing all people the opportunity to browse the artwork that was installed. Each piece had a short descriptor, complete with the title of the piece, the artist, art medium, and price were installed next to the piece, allowing observers to identify the artwork for potential purchase. Once purchased, a small orange sticker was placed next to the descriptor. Within minutes, pieces were sold. The TAG Facebook and Instagram page posted previews of the pieces, allowing potential buyers to set their sights on artwork prior to the event.
TAG proves to be extremely successful, year after year. Events such as TAG keep the community vibrant through the art of giving to others. Check out TAG’s Instagram and Facebook page to learn more.
