The 2023 Fall semester is coming to a quick end and with that, finals week will be upon us before we know it. During this time, it is important to do your best academically while also taking care of yourself by prioritizing your mental and physical health. Academics are important, but so is your well-being. Between finals and the anticipation of the upcoming winter break, it can be difficult to remain focused on studying and completing assignments.
When the pressure of succeeding during these final weeks begins to set in, it can be difficult to focus on what is important. Remind yourself to take breaks, eat good food, and get an appropriate amount of rest so that you can be in your best state of mind. If you can, make sure to eat a healthy and nutritious breakfast and take advantage of the options provided at Wilkerson Dining Hall.
While studying, try listening to calming and non-distracting music. Find a good space to study in that has a healthy environment for you. This type of space can look different for everyone. Some people might thrive in the quiet environment of a study room at the Chester Fritz library, while others may be able to focus better in a place like the Memorial Union where there is a bit more noise and student life. Either way, just know that whatever works for you is what is most important.
One way to avoid experiencing burnout is to remember to take breaks and get rest. Set reminders to take time off from studying or working on assignments to just sit and breathe. Maybe take some time to go for a walk or sign up for a class at the Wellness Center to get a change of pace while using your resources. Even just taking the time to grab a quick lunch with a friend can provide some relief and give you a quick boost of motivation.
The best way to be successful during this busy time of the year is to focus on the most important thing, your mental and physical health. So, make sure you prioritize your own well-being and that in itself will give you an upper hand on your assignments and final exams. If you find yourself feeling stressed, just remember that winter break is just around the corner.
