Cross country runs strong

EDGEBROOK UND paced near the middle of the pack in weekend meet.

Despite pouring rain and threats of a snowstorm, the UND men’s and women’s cross country teams held strong over the weekend.

Junior Erin Wysocki ran Saturday at the SDSU Cross Country Classic in Edgebrook Golf Course — claiming her fastest 5K cross country time of her career at 18 minutes, 25.36 seconds.

The Grand Forks native paced herself 17th out of 134 runners and fell just one minute short of medalist Molly Kayfes of Minnesota, who posted a time of 17:29:01.

The Green and White managed a fifth place finish out of 12 teams.

The men’s team competed at Edgebrook Course too, taking home 6th place out of 11 teams.

Junior Nate Peterson finished the 8K course 20th out of 134 runners with a time of 26:22:86 while senior Sam Saccoman claimed 22nd as he ended the race at the 26:24:69 mark.

The duo fell short of the 26:54:20 time of winner Trent Lusignan from South Dakota State.

Both teams will have a weekend off before hosting the UND Ron Pynn Invitational Oct. 19 in Ray Richards Golf Course in Grand Forks.
