Team elects leaders
LEADERS Captains chosen to lead women’s hockey team for 2013-14.
UND women’s hockey coach Brian Idalski announced Friday that senior Michelle Karvinen will serve as team captain for the 2013-14 season. Senior Kayla Berg and junior Andrea Dalen will serve as assistant captains.
“I am excited for this group to take ownership of the team” Idalski said in a UND press release. “All three complement each other with their strengths, work habits on and off the ice, and they all have a ton of experience being leaders, whether it’s internationally or on our club.”
Karvinen served as an assistant captain last year, finishing the 2012-13 season as the No. 3 scorer on the team with 18 goals and 29 assists. She also is entering the Western Collegiate Hockey Association as the top-returning career-points scorer.
Berg has worn the familiar “A” on her shoulder since her sophomore season in 2011-12, but Dalen is new to the role. However, Dalen served as an assistant captain for the Norwegian Women’s National Team at the 2013 IIHF Div. I Women’s World Championship.
