The University of North Dakota is home to many services that can be utilized by students of many different majors. With each college at UND offering different services, it can make it difficult to keep all of them in mind. One college with many services is the Nistler College of Business and Public Administration. Most of these services are being offered out of the Pancratz Center and are available for any student under the purview of the college. These services are offered at no additional cost to the student and provide a more in-depth layer of professional development that can build upon that already offered by the University Career Services.
One unique service offered to students through the Pancratz Center is the Freeman Professional Closet. This offers students an opportunity to come in, once per semester, and select from a wide variety of clothing that can be used for either professional or business casual events and jobs. All the items come from community donors to be available to students. During a visit to the closet, students can keep two large items and one accessory. One thing that is helpful is that a student is not required to keep a full set of items, meaning that if there is a matching blazer and pair of pants but only one-piece fits, it is not required to take the item that does not fit. One downfall to this is that it can lead to a large variety of mismatched items making finding a complete matching set in the closet less likely.
Visiting the closet is just as easy as making any other appointment for services on campus as they are made from the Starfish system the same way as making an appointment with an advisor. A student need only select the Pancratz Center from the list of services and select the Professional Closet as the reason for making an appointment. Once it comes time for the appointment, check-in is at the front counter of the Pancratz. After this, the student will be left in the closet to find items they want to keep. If unable to find all the items, it is tallied at the end so that another appointment can be made later to find the remaining items allotted.
While at times it can be difficult to find items in the closet that match or fit perfectly, it can be useful for finding professional attire at a low cost to students. Stores such as JCPenney and Macy’s might be too expensive for college students to buy new items. This service rounds out the large variety of services offered by the Pancratz Center.
