“Road to Little Rock” Premiere
The “Road to Little Rock” documentary is scheduled to premiere Sept. 23. There will be a showing at 7 p.m in the Chester Fritz auditorium.
The film, directed by Art Phillips, tells the story of Judge Ronald Davies, a UND alumnus.
Davies was involved in the 1957 decision in Little Rock, Ark. that had an enormous impact on the civil rights movement.
While many schools continued to ignore the 1954 Supreme Court decision of Brown v. The Board of Education, which declared that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional, nine African-American students stood up to the racism and went to a high school in Little Rock despite the criticism and hate they faced on a daily basis.
Historian Philip J. Deloria to visit campus
Historian Philip J. Deloria will be at the University of North Dakota Wednesday and Thursday.
Deloria, author of “Playing Indian and Indians in Unexpected Places,” will be giving a speech on Mount Rushmore and the controversy surrounding the monument in regards to the defacing of what many consider sacred land.
