Kessler nets Big Sky award

A good week for UND’s soccer team got even better on Tuesday.

On top of the team reaching a 2-1 record and matching its goal total from the year before, freshman Veronica Kessler was named the Big Sky Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, an honor she shares with Rebecca Lancia, a forward/midfielder from Northern Colorado.

Kessler was a key component of the Green and White’s 4-0 win over South Dakota this previous Sunday.

No. 30 started the scoring as the freshmen buried the ball off of her own rebound in the 40th minute.

The scoring continued as Kessler then scored again after a failed corner kick attempt, putting the game virtually out of reach for South Dakota.

The two goals were more meaningful than usual; as they were her first collegiate goals of her career.

Kessler’s Big Sky award marks the first time in two years that a soccer player from the school has won the honor.

The last player to do so was Zoe Foster on September 4, 2013.

Kessler and the rest of the UND soccer team will look to ride this wave of early success in this coming weekend.

The Green and White will square off at home against Green Bay on Friday and Omaha on Sunday Bronson Field.
