Women’s team swings runner-up finish

For the second consecutive season, the UND women’s golf team took second place at the Cobber Open at the Wildflower Golf Club in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

The team collected a score of 316 (+28) in the 18-hole event last Friday, with senior captain Amanda Fairweather placing third overall at 77 (+5).

In her best round since her sophomore season, Fairweather carried her team while Sadie Martin stood one shot behind fifth place at 78 (+6).

Senior Mikki Kromy posted an 80 (+8) while sophomore Alexis Guggisberg tallied an 80 (+9). Emma Kischel led the individuals group with an 86 (+14).

“I thought it was a good start to the season,” UND coach Natalie Martinson said. “Amanda had a solid round today and had been practicing well, so it was nice to see that translate to competition.

“Overall, we still had too many big numbers, but I like where we are as a team right now heading into our first multiple-round event next weekend.”

The team will travel to the Jackrabbit Fall Invitational in Sioux Falls S.D. to take on South Dakota State on Sept. 22-23.
