Goalie changes surname

The North Dakota men’s hockey team will have a new name in between the pipes this year — but the face behind the mask is a familiar one.

Junior goaltender Zane Gothberg announced last week he has legally changed his surname from Gothberg to his mother’s maiden name of McIntyre.

“My grandmother and my mother have been very influential in my life,” McIntyre said in a UND press release. “With the passing of my grandmother and my mother getting re-married, as well as my sister getting married, I’ve made the personal choice to carry on the family name in their honor.”

Last season, McIntyre led the National Collegiate Hockey Conference with 1.99 goals against average and was No. 2 in save percentage with .926. His 20-10-3 record during his sophomore year ended with a finalist finish for the NCHC Goaltender of the Year award.
