The UND women’s soccer team hit the road over the weekend, falling to Southern Utah 3-2 Friday and couldn’t bounce back Saturday as it fell 2-0 to Northern Arizona.

The team’s trip to Cedar City to face off against Southern Utah looked hopeful as North Dakota took the lead twice, but found itself on the losing end as the Thunderbirds equalized after each UND goal and claimed a 3-2 win, scoring a goal in the final minute of play.

In the 14th minute of the game, freshman Robyn Wujkowski broke through the back line and scored her third goal of the season.

Southern Utah responded quickly to tie the score, but UND’s Michelle Stingle scored soon after. The lead did not last long, however, and the scoreboard displayed a tie once again.

It wasn’t until the final minute of the game that SUU pulled ahead with 45 seconds left on the clock and claimed the 3-2 victory.

“We’re now creating chances and converting them,” UND coach Matt Kellogg said. “However, our group needs to get comfortable playing with a lead.”

Northern Arizona

Saturday, the Green and White took the field in front of 362 people — the largest crowd it’s had this year — falling to the Lumberjacks 2-0.

Northern Arizona scored its first goal 18 minutes into the game, scoring another in the 80th minute.

Despite the loss, Kellogg said he feels the team played a respectable game.

“Forget about the stats and the score, we played a very disciplined game today and never stopped running,” Kellogg said. “This was our first weekend this season playing at altitude and it took its toll on us a bit.”

After scoring two goals against Southern Utah in a 3-2 loss on Friday, North Dakota could only get four shots off against NAU, with only one shot making its way on target.

North Dakota will return home to wrap up its 2013 season with contests against Idaho State on Friday at 3 p.m. and Weber State for senior day on Sunday at 1 p.m.
