It is a relentless cycle. Every spring, seniors are forced to take in and experience life on campus one last time as they prepare themselves for the next chapter of their life and put the degree that have worked tirelessly towards to work. It is a bittersweet experience that is difficult to understand until it is your turn to walk across the stage and hear your own name called as you are greeted by faculty and staff while receiving your diploma. Yet, despite the chapters of many students’ college life coming to an end, it creates room and space for a new group of incoming students to embark on that very same journey and experience the highs and lows for themselves.
This past fall, the University of North Dakota admitted a record number of students. These 2,731 students embarked on their academic journeys this past year, and many are now looking forward to continuing their studies as undergraduate students. However, this spring it is expected that this trend will continue yet again as enrollment at UND remains at record highs going into next year.
On Friday, Apr. 4, newly admitted students had the opportunity to visit the university, step in the shoes of college students for the first time at Admitted Student Day, and experience a far more immersive experience than a standard college tour.
On Admitted Student Day, students will have the chance to hear from UND professors, advisors, and current students on why UND was the right fit for them along with an exclusive opportunity to facilitate new connections as they will be forced to interact with and explore campus with other admitted students for the first time.
Hunter Fletschock, a third-year student, reflects on his experience following his acceptance into UND and what made it so special to him.
“Getting my acceptance letter was like a sigh of relief, I had no idea what my future looked like at the time, but I knew I would have the resources available to me to succeed at UND,” Fletschock said.
His response highlights how the path of attending a university is not always straight forward, but UND does a great job of marketing themselves to prospective students as a thriving environment that fosters academic growth and providing opportunities to all students regardless of their background.
As the university continues to grow, its student body, while upholding a standard of academic excellence that all of us are striving towards, hopefully this year’s activities that are planned for Admitted Student Day run smoothly, and it becomes explicitly clear to prospective students that UND is the right fit for them.
