On October 22, the University of North Dakota’s Inter Fraternal Council is hosting its second annual IFC Poker Night at the Memorial Union Small Ballroom at 7 p.m. This event is an exclusive event that members involved in fraternity life are welcome to attend.
This event is organized by the members of the IFC executive council where fraternity men will have the opportunity to take part in a low stake’s tournament style poker event with other members from different fraternities. At the end of the event, those who advance to the final table have the opportunity to compete for a chance to win a $100, $50, and $25 gift card from a local Grand Forks business of their choice for either finishing first, second, or third.
The current IFC President, Jaxon Wetzel, shared what his hopes and expectations are for the event. “I’m incredibly excited to have the second annual event scheduled for all of fraternity life at UND,” Wetzel said. “Being able to provide a night of fun and excitement is my goal, and I believe that we have done just that,” which he is looking forward to seeing everyone that is planning on attending.
Poker is a card game in which players wager against each other on who has the higher hand, and the highest hand takes the pot. A key element of the game is the ability to “bluff” your opponent’s away from the pot by strategically betting a set amount to indicate that you have a better hand to win the pot and encouraging others to fold. Poker is typically played with a standard 52-card deck, and the value of each car depends on the variation of the game that is being played. The variation that will be implemented during the IFC Poker tournament is one of the most popular versions known as Texas hold’em. Each player is dealt two cards face down, and the ensuing betting action takes place following the five cards that are dealt during the game with three being dealt during the flop, one on the turn card, and the last on the river. After the last card is dealt, the last round of betting takes place, and the winner of the game is determined.
The IFC Executive council has devoted a lot of thought and consideration planning out this exclusive event for the fraternities on campus, therefore, whether you are familiar with poker or not and are part of Greek life, it is strongly encouraged you to check out and take part in this year’s edition of IFC’s Poker Night at the Memorial Union October 22 at 7 p.m.
