Floodwall Magazine Reading and Launch Celebration

Claire Arneson, Editor

As the semester comes to a close and the snow is melting into the ground, the flood is coming. An environmental flood is inevitable, but Floodwall volume two, issue seven is also being released to the public. On May 4th from 7-8:30 PM in the Chester Fritz Library room 406, the Floodwall launch party will be hosted by Dr. Patrick Henry and the Floodwall team. The event will consist of refreshments as well as authors that had the opportunity to be published in the magazine to read and share their work with the community. They will also announce the winners of the English Creative Writing scholarships. If you are unable to attend the event, they will also be live streaming it on their Instagram @undfloodwall.

Floodwall Literary Magazine was first established in 2012 by a group of graduate students. They published only five submissions of both fiction and poetry and were confined to only graduate student submissions. The magazine is run mainly by the English department, but they have contributors from every field here at UND. Now, in volume two they publish a wide range of creative work, including fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and Photography & Art. They also now accept submissions from any UND student regardless of educational track. From the Floodwall website they say, “Floodwall has always been collaborative, and UND’s writers, artists, and editors will continue to build this literary tradition together, brick by brick, piece by piece.” Some staff members from Dakota Student will also be featured in this spring’s issue as contributors and editors so keep your eye out for your favorite writers.

For more information, you can check out Floodwall’s Instagram as mentioned earlier, or check out their website und.edu/floodwall or you can “send a line” to Dr. Patrick Henry through his UND email, [email protected].
