UND hosts inspiring coach
COACH: Speaker encourages communities with stories of trials and success.
The UND women’s basketball team will be hosting legendary coach and motivational speaker, Don Meyer, who will be visiting UND’s campus Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Gorecki Alumni Center.
Meyer, a longtime head coach at Lipscomb and Northern State University, posted 923 wins and retired in 2010 as the winningest collegiate basketball coach.
As an ESPY winner, Meyer has taught basketball clinics in nearly every state in the U.S. and also some clinics overseas. The Don Meyer Coaching Academy was one of the most popular opportunities for coaches and young people to learn about basketball and life for over 19 years. Meyer focuses on teaching his philosophies of servant leadership to church groups, businesses, schools and athletic teams.
Meyer has suffered a near-fatal car accident, which claimed a large portion of his leg, and has been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. However, his many insights of spirituality, faith, leadership and work ethic are the focus of his speeches across the country.
The UND women’s basketball team, local coaches, teams and enthusiasts will be in attendance to hear Meyer speak at the Gorecki Alumni Center. The public is invited to the event, but required to purchase tickets in advance for $10 because of space limitations. More more information, contact UND assistant men’s basketball coach Brent Pollari.
