Letter to the Editor

Praise for human rights

Dear Editor:

I am responding to Carrie Sandstrom’s column and the article she “really didn’t want to write”.

I have been befuddled as well by the different administrations focusing on “human rights” in the Middle East. Why is it that we haven’t taken the same interest in egregious governmental crimes in, say Africa or Tibet? For that matter, why haven’t we done something about the human rights issues on our own Dakota reservations?

I am also concerned that we think we have to be the “world cop.” We need to work through the United Nations to make it more effective at resolving issues.

Lastly, we need to realize that war is not the answer until all other options are fully explored — and I mean all and fully! I really thought this President would approach world problems in that way. I am disappointed in Obama, especially considering that I voted for him twice.

Thanks Carrie for putting yourself out there!
